Preparation for Work
Business and Enterprise programme
Year 10 students from All Saints Enterprise College visited the Academy for a week to engage in phase 2 of project which offered students the chance to achieve employability skills as an alternative to the traditional method of work experience
Students learned about different businesses including profit making businesses, social enterprises and multinational organizations. They also visited a local college to learn more about the different departments and the range of courses on offer.
Students engaged in a range of enterprise activities and took part in a Dragon’s Den style challenge where they had to work in teams to buy materials to make a prototype and then present their ideas to a panel of judges from the business community. To keep them on their toes, the students then had to answer a round of quick fire questions from the judges before they decided how much money to invest in the students’ ideas.
The project delivered a unique approach to a meaningful and sustainable enterprise/work experience project which involved partnership working from a number of key stakeholders. The initiative met the needs of the individual learner by offering them a range of experiences to help prepare them for the world of work and forestall the numbers of students falling into the NEET (not in education, employment or training) cohort.
