Apopo Rat Appeal
A group of Creative Routes to Employment students took part in a fundraising event at Knowsley Safari Park to raise money for the Apopo Rat appeal.
The Apopo Rat is trained and works in Africa finding landmines that have been left buried in the ground after the war. Landmines explode, injuring and killing innocent children and adults who step on them. This affects children playing and adults who need to plant crops to feed their families.
The Apopo Rat has an excellent sense of smell and they are able to pick up the scent of the explosive in the buried landmine and the landmine will carefully be dug up and disposed of.
During the rats training and work they are given their favourite treats of bananas and peanuts.
The students had researched about the good work of the Apopo Rats and decided to support the charity.
The group decided to undertake the Aerial Extreme High Ropes Challenge at Knowsley Safari Park and they had a collection of money at North Mersey Business Centre, both activities were very successful and over £250.00 was raised.
