Academy news

Students from five secondary schools in Knowsley  have taken part in a web based magazine project at Knowsley Enterprise Academy.  The students involved decided upon the name ‘The Academy News’ or TAN for short.

Students engaged in a range of team challenges and enterprise activities to enhance their confidence and communication skills and also gained OCN accreditation in Assertiveness and Decision Making.

As the project progressed, students attended the Academy and worked in teams to design a logo for the ‘The Academy News’ and also worked with a local graphic designer to discuss ideas for the layout of the website.

Students then worked in teams to produce a range of articles for the first edition in line with the Every Child Matters aims and outcomes.  Articles included ‘Tips for Internet Safety’ ‘Leisure activities in Knowsley’  ‘Changes in Education’ and much more.

The website is informative and fun –covering a range of topics written by young people for young people.  It also includes tips on fashion, fun recipes and some quizzes and competitions.

We welcome input from local Knowsley businesses who can offer valuable advice (to the students) on their job roles and how they have built up their businesses.

Students involved in the ‘The Academy News’ project have worked together on a range of activities to develop their team working, communication and problem solving skills. They have attended workshops at Knowsley Enterprise Academy where they have had group meetings about the content, layout and design of the website.

“Students involved in The Academy News have worked really hard to produce a range of articles for the website to appeal to other young people in the borough. They have also designed the logo for the website and worked with a local graphic designer on the layout of the website. It has been a pleasure to work with the students and witness all their hard work and commitment”.

Students have worked in teams to come up with ideas for the website, allocate different roles to group members and deliver presentations about their ideas. Throughout the project, students have grown in confidence, met deadlines and worked together both at The Academy and back at school to make the project the success it is. The students involved in the project also achieved OCN credits in Assertiveness and Decision Making.
